Abstract

The use of polymer dispersions for the modification of photographic gelatin emulsions started in the early sixties, the first patent being granted to Du Pont. In this paper the functions of polymer dispersions in photographic emulsions, and the conditions for their application are discussed.The interaction of gelatin and dispersions was investigated using rheological measurements and the effects of materials such as surfactants and the role of pH was examined.
