Abstract

AbstractA range of reported applications of colour reproduction indices to imaging systems is reviewed. In particular, linear relationships between the colour reproduction index, CRI, and observer acceptability are compared for reflection colour prints, projected transparencies and images on a video display unit. Within this context the most useful reference for CRI calculations is explored and conclusions are drawn for situations where an individual imaging system is to be optimised, or a choice between systems may be required. The relation between a just perceptible colour difference and a just noticeable difference in acceptability is quantified, in CRI units, for reflection prints.
