Abstract
The present study deals with the educational component in the textbook Latin for Grammar Schools by the classical philologist Julius Špaňár. Since the textbook was written during the communist period, the main research question was to find out whether the textbook is aimed at forming pupils' consciousness based on a Marxist-Leninist worldview or whether it reflects the values of Greco-Roman antiquity. The research dealt with the translation sentences of the textbook and the analysis of their content. The results of the analysis showed what values and themes are presented in the textbook and what sources of inspiration the author drew on. The research provides important insights for a better understanding of the Latin for Grammar Schools textbook and its educational function.
