Abstract

The article presents the basic concept of «value orientation» as a basis for understanding and regulation of human behavior and activity in all its forms and manifestations. It is noted that the regulation of professional activity by means of values stands as one of the most important factors of professional competence and professionalism of a practical psychologistThe most difficult for understanding in all human sciences, including psychology is the concept of «values» and «value orientations». Relevance of value aspects of modern psychological practice is due to a number of important reasons connected primarily with existing socioeconomic situation and with the emergence of new psycho technologies and practices of professional psychological assistance.Value component of an individual provides guidance on their own, independent system of values associated with awareness of responsibility for the results of professional activities. It, in certain circumstances, is the main regulator of the activity of professional orientation and his personal and professional development. Value orientations determine central position of an individual, affect the direction and content of social and professional activity, and determine the content and direction of public position of a personality, actions and direction of the activity. They can also be considered as a preceding component of the professional implementation of an identity, as they determine the general attitude to their individual professional goals, objectives and requirements.The approaches mentioned in the article for understanding the role of value orientation as a basis of professional specialists allow us to precede for consideration the axiological component of a practical psychologist’s professional activity, presenting it as a value-regulatory entity. The professional activity of a psychologist is a kind of social activity, where a psychologist, summarizing the pre-formed ideas about the value of human is personifying them in their own words and actions, aimed it at another person. Value orientations also have fundamental importance for the formation of individual style of psychologist’s professional activity, defining its humane, democratic or authoritarian character.Overall, the prevailing values and professional orientations will stimulate professional and personal development of a practical psychologist and play a strategic role in his future professional activity. These will ensure high quality and productivity at work of a practical psychologist, his sustainable, responsible and professional attitude to his work.
