Abstract

1. 1. The uptake of 32P-labelled DNA by Ehrlich ascites tumor cells has been studied and control experiments are presented which rule out uptake mechanisms other than that of the uptake of non-degraded DNA. 2. 2. The uptake takes place to a considerable extent at 0°. 3. 3. The uptake proceeds more efficiently at low concentrations of DNA. 4. 4. By deoxyribonuclease treatment of DNA-loaded cells a distinction can be made between the two modes of DNA uptake: adsorption to the surface (80 %) and penetration into the cells (20 %).
