Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the production of History II textbook for the 7th grade and its content which was authored by Ali Haydar Taner, famous Turkish psychologist in 1940. It was used between 1940-1948 by the decision of the Board of Education. Three sub-problems will be answered in this study; Why and how did Psychologist Ali Haydar Taner become "the writer" of the book History II for the 7th grade? What were the practices of the Ministry of National Education for the printing of school textbooks from the first years of the Republic until 1940? What were the similar and different aspects of History II for the 7 th grade by Ali Haydar Taner with the previous edition (1937) of History II whose writers were unknown? Pedagogical criticisms of History I-II-III for the middle schools, published in 1934 made it necessary to establish commissions by the Ministry of National Education to solve the problems after 1937. After 1940, Ali Haydar Taner's name was seen on History II for the 7th grade. The Ministry of National Education organized the Second National Education Council in 1943 to legitimate revisions of history curriculum and history textbooks written in Atatürk’s period. In Turkey, radical changes in history curricula in the past prevented history textbooks from evolving.
