Abstract
The stepwise formation constants, enthalpy and entropy changes for the formation of bis-cysteino-Ni(II) chelate have been determined. The analysis of the thermodynamic quantities shows that the chelate has a square planar symmetry and that the enthalpy change associated with the formation of the Ni(II)S bond is nearly half of that expected of the Ni(II)N bond. The visible and u.v. absorption spectrum of the chelate is consistent with a square planar symmetry.
