Abstract

The accumulation of CO 2 in the atmosphere rather than the scarcity of fossile fuels may be the future constrain on fossile energy use. A solution for the petroleum industry is to take the large volume offered by oil and gas reservoirs into use as these can store two thirds of the CO 2 produced by combustion of the world's oil and gas reserves. Concepts for combining power production with CO 2 injection into petroleum reservoirs are presented. Only as injection fluid for improved oil recovery large quantities of CO 2 can be utilized commercially. A brief economic analysis show that an emission free gas power plant for given conditions has a positive present value.
