Abstract

The thermal and spectral properties of chelate polymers of 2,6-diaminopimelic acid (DAP) and 4,4′-diamino-3,3′-dicarboxyphenyl (BBDC) with divalent copper, zinc, cobalt and nickel have been investigated. The thermal stability order for the BBDC chelates is Ni ≈ Co > Zn > Cu, and for the DAP chelates Co > Zn > Ni > Cu. The properties of the polymeric DAP chelates are compared with the non-polymeric amino acid chelates of α-alanine and α-amino- n-butyric acid. Activation energies are calculated for the decomposition reactions of the DAP chelates from their DTA curves.
