Abstract

Children dances and folk dances (kolo) are filled with a rich variety of steps, movements, forms and rhythms and physical activity that goes with them have a very important impact on psychological and physical on children bodies. By using elements of dance and children dance (kolo) a number of biological and educational tasks in Physical education can be solved with children. The most important biological task is to provide correct and natural holding of the body, which is necessary form the view of biological human development. It is also of special importance for the correct functioning of internal organs, cardio vascular and respiratory system, which is important for the whole organism. Children dances and folk dancing (kolo) have a positive impact on the majority of most motoric abilities such as follows: coordination, fastness, strength, endurance, thus enabling normal movement of all the joints. It is a reason more to pay particular attention to the presentation of dance elements and children dances (kolo) at a pre-school as well as junior school age. Children are introduced to the basic characteristics of the particular folk dances and get acquainted with the tradition and culture of their own people. When accompanied with singing or musical instruments, with a large number of rhythms and melodies, from the simplest to the most complex ones, they also present a treasury of an enormous value from the standpoint of music folklore. Apart from contributing to correct holding of the body, they also contribute to the personality forming, correct understanding of sex relations and mutual respect. Both pre-school and school teachers should be the best guardians of the folk tradition and its transferring to the young generations. Teaching contents from the area of national folk dances offer possibilities of correlation with other subjects in junior primary school classes.
