Abstract

A computer-based farm management information system for advising farmers about the use of fungicide against leaf rust of barley is outlined. The implementation of such a management aid is dependent on the validity and value of the information produced, both of which may be affected by subjective judgements on the part of potential users. Information systems can provide a framework within which fundamental research findings may be transmitted directly to the farmer. Flexibility is served if the biological components of a decision-support information systems are constructed in response to the demands of the information system itself.
