Abstract

The laser Raman spectra of aqueous Th(NO 3) 4 solutions and the complementary i.r. spectra have been determined at 25°C. Spectra indicate the presence of pronounced ion-ion and ion-solvent interactions in the system. The results can best be explained in terms of an equilibrium between ‘complexed’ and ‘free’ nitrate in the system. The stoichiometry of the complexes and the concentration quotients for the solution equilibria have been determined by the molar ratio method.
