Abstract

The rate law for the exchange of oxygen atoms between perrhenate ion and water in the pH range 2·2 to 6·2 is rate = k1[H+][ReO4−][H2O]+k2[ReO4−][H2O]; at μ = 0·34 and 0°C, k1 = 3·91 1.2mole−1min−2 and k2 = 1·89 × 10−5 1. mole−1min−1. The exchange of [Re(en)2O2]+ with water is slow under neutral conditions and the oxygens of [Re(en)2O2]+ are transferred to ReO4− when the oxidation is carried out in basic media with Br2.
