Abstract

Phase equilibria in the PuPuCl 3 system was investigated up to 1180°C. A salt-rich eutectic point exists at 7 mole% Pu and 740°C, which is also the monotectic temperature. The metal-rich eutectic point is at some composition greater than 99 mole% Pu and was too small to be detected. The consolute temperature is sufficiently high to be beyond the scope of this investigation. No evidence for a Pu halide other than PuCl 3 was found.
