Abstract

November 1994 marked five years since the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child—a document of major political and moral-pedagogical importance. Three years ago at the World Summit Meeting on the Interests of Children, in New York, participants adopted the World Declaration to Secure the Survival, Protection, and Development of Children, along with a plan of action to implement it through the year 2000. These documents signal a turnaround in the self-awareness of human society, a new stage in the interactions between two worlds—adults and children.
