Abstract
Confucius's thought occupies a very special position in the history of Chinese society, philosophy, education, and culture. In studying Confucius our purpose is not to exalt him or to derogate him, but to take his teaching and influence as a target for scientific research and to make a realistic and scientific assessment. There are many divergent opinions in the study of Confucius; thus the investigation of the methodological question in the study of Confucius is a reliable route that serves to propel forward the study of the subject. We should carry out a multilevel, multilayered investigation and inquiry when we study the social factors that determined Confucius's ideological and intellectual outlook. The transformation of the shape and form of society is, in this case, a general cause; whereas the intellecutal and cultural traditions of the state of Lu, the contradictions that existed in reality, and the influence these had on the formation of Confucius's ideology are special reason.
