The article is devoted to the study of the basis for determining the methods of design - designing the interiors of the premises of cinemas in the style of postmodernism.The features of postmodernism in this context include humor, a combination of styles, vibrant colors, metaphor. On the basis of the studied data, the features and specific properties of the postmodernism style, the features of its use in the design of movie theater interiors, and the ideas of creating receptions are determined. The analysis used the possibilities of applying some of the three trends within the postmodern movement: marginal modernism; metaphorical, humorous, entertaining, gaming. Of the additional considered: deconstructive; non-authentic, eсlectic; parody. The primitivization of the use of classical forms with the activation of the cinemas indicated on the exterior is noted.The analysis of the premises of cinemas and the style of postmodernism was implemented. Among the mandatory elements there is a need for decoration in the postmodern style of the following movie theater premises: a cash register lobby with ticket rooms, an entrance lobby, a lobby or distribution lobbies, a buffet with utility rooms, sanitary facilities, a demonstration complex, an auditorium and a director’s office. The holistic interior of the auditorium, entrance lobby and foyer requires the greatest attention.A brief historiographic analysis of the development of cinemas, the requirements for their design.Scientific novelty: The main ideas of the techniques of the conceptual design of the cinema in the postmodernism style are identified: The main ideas of the methods of the design of the cinema in the postmodernism style are introduced: the game with stylistic formulas; connection of a real i conditionally gaming; hyperbolization, the effect of distortion of the object; play with space; interpretation of environmental composition as a scene; ironic replay of traditions, the use of second-level irony: play of irony, play over irony; game genre models in a certain historical interval.
