Abstract

A remeasurement of the independent yield of 136Cs in the thermal fission of 235U, 233U and 239Pu has established the values of 6·85 × 10 −3, 0·118 and 8·35 × 10 −2 per cent respectively. All these values are in good agreement with those calculated from the equal charge displacement hypothesis. The yield in 233U fission was found to be unchanged by a cadmium wrapping, provided that sufficient care had been taken in preparation of the irradiated sample. Some discussion of the possible causes of spurious results obtained in preliminary measurements is included.
