Abstract

Abstract A numerical investigation through ANSYS/LS-DYA code was carried out to examine the impact behavior of Aluminium1100-H12 plates against ogive-nosed projectile with varying thickness as 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 mm keeping the diameter identical, 255mm. The parameters of projectile such as mass, diameter and length were taken as 52.50 gm, 19 mm and 50.80 mm respectively. The numerical findings were validated by experimental results for 1-2 mm thickness and theoretical results for 1-5 mm thickness. The behavior was studied by examining the velocity drop, ballistic limit, energy absorption, residual velocity, global deformation, and contact time.
