Abstract

The effect of the other lubricating oil additives on the zinc di-isobutyldithiophosphate adsorption from n-hexadecane onto iron and iron oxide surfaces has been measured under static conditions. For different ZDTP concentrations, temperatures and for both iron and iron oxide ZDTP, adsorption was reduced by the other additives. During adsorption at 80°C, the other additives reduced thiophosphate and sulfide formation on the iron oxide most of the other additives investigated increased the oxidation of ZDTP to bis /O,O-diisobutyldithiophosphoryl/disulfide.
