Abstract

Objective To evaluate multi-slice CT(MSCT)with multi-planar reconstruction and 3D vol-ume rendering for diagnosis of incipient bone fracture in complex structure. Methods 93 cases of bone fracture with CT diagnosis were retrospectively collected. The best way to display the incipient fracture and complex structural fracture was analyzed, together with comparison to that presented by digital radiography(DR). Results The cases with non-visualization or unclear demonstration of delicate fractures by DR, could be accurately di-agnosed as fracture by MSCT in 31 cases, with furthermore diagnosis of complex fracture for in 16 cases, and fragmental protrusion into vertebral canal or joint space in another 17 cases. Conclusion MSCT with 2D or 3D volume rendering and software processing provide high accuracy and completeness for diagnosing incipient and complex structural fractures. It is superior to DR technology; especially in cases of non-visualized or unclear dis-played delicate or complex fractures. Key words: MSCT; Incipient fracture; Volume rendering
