Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical application value of three-dimensional reconstruction of multi-slice spiral CT in the diagnosis of occult fracture of rib. Methods Ninety cases of patients suspected with ribs occult fracture were selected, all patients had no obvious sign of fracture by digital radiography, and they were given the multi-slice spiral CT examination. Volume rendering (VR), surface reconstruction (CPR), multi planar reconstruction (MRP) and maximum intensity projection (MIP) were used for image reconstruction, respectively. The diagnostic results were retrospectively analyzed. Results In this study, a total of 132 fractures of the ribs were found in 90 patients, including 16 complete linear fractures, 116 incomplete fractures (42 exogenous fractures and 74 endogenous fractures). Among the four kinds of image reconstruction methods, the accuracy of CPR (100%) and MPR (93.18%) for the diagnosis of occult rib fractures was significantly higher than that of VR (78.79%) and MIP (36.36%), the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusions Multi-slice spiral CT can be used to diagnose occult fracture of ribs, which can clearly reflect the spatial structure of the ribs of patients and realize the multi-angle and multi-orientation observation. Meanwhile, CT combined with CPR and MPR can reconstruct the three-dimensional images, further improve the articulation and completeness of rib images, conduce to clear the early ribs occult fracture, and has a very positive significance in the development of clinical treatment program.
