Abstract
The reaction of α-methylstyrene particles with lithium, sodium and their mixtures in a hydrocarbon medium at a monomer concentration below equilibrium has been studied. It is shown that at least two processes occur simultaneously: dispersion of the metals and polymerization of α-methylstyrene on the surface of the metallic particles formed. The kinetics of polymerization and the molecular mass distribution of the polymers obtained have been studied. It is shown that the molecular mass of the polymer is determined by the nature and number of the bimetallic active centres.
