Abstract

In 2021, the expedition of the Altai State University together with the staff of the Max Planck Institute of Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig (Germany) and with the participation of the A.V. Anokhin National Museum of the Altai Republic excavated the settlement of Nizhnyaya Sooru, located in Central Altai. Analysis of the stratigraphy of sediments recorded at the studied site revealed three well-stratified cultural horizons alternating with sterile, as a rule, alluvial deposits. The earliest complex belongs to the Afanasyevo time. A small cultural layer found on the site is probably associated with the Bronze Age. The latest complex tentatively can be dated to the early Iron Age.
