Abstract

The empirical study presents the quantitative representation of languages in the investigated areas – Michalská and Zelena Street – in the linguistic landscape of Bratislava. At the same time, it emphasizes the necessity of further qualitative data analysis with regard to the perception of individual languages – present in the language landscape under study – by a specific type of recipient. Important evaluation criteria in the analysis process are (1) the visual accessibility of the sign, (2) the rate of distribution of the sign in the investigated area and (3) the classification of the sign (top-down vs. bottom-up signs).
