Abstract
The formation constant for the metal chelates of copper, zinc, nickel, cadmium and magnesium with catechol, photocatechuic acid, homoprotocatechuic acid and 3:4-dihydroxyhydrocinnamic acid have been determined. The Calvin-Bjerrum titration technique has been adopted for the determination of stability constants of the proton ligand complexes and the metal ligand chelates. The relation between the log of the stability constants of the metal chelates and the log of the proton-ligand formation constants of the ligands is discussed. The metal-ligand chelate stability constants follow the order Zn < Cu > Ni > Cd > Mg.
