Abstract
The analysis of scientific literature testifies to the fact of demographic aging of the population. In Russia, the process of demographic aging is caused not only by the low birth rate, but also by the increase in people’s life expectancy. The problems of the psychological identity of elderly people have not yet been sufficiently studied. The results of the empirical study presented in the article show the peculiarities of the Self-concept and life-meaning orientations of elderly women and men, the specifics of their personal adaptation to new age-social roles. The factor analysis makes it possible to see which features of the Self-concept are primarily associated with the process of life rethinking in women and men in the period of late adulthood. The results of the study may be useful for social workers and psychologists working with elderly people.
