Abstract

This chapter discusses about precision analog microcontrollers. The combination of ADC, nonvolatile memory, and microcontroller is useful in many other applications as well, including communications, medical, and handheld instrumentation to name just a few. The characteristics of the MicroConverter product family are discussed. The MicroConverter product family integrates precision data acquisition circuitry on the same chip as the microcontroller, without compromising performance of the analog functions. Some Δ–Σ MicroConverter applications are discussed. Analog devices have chosen the ARM7TDMI core for the ADuC7xxx MicroConverter product family. This popular core offers industry-standard software, and provides a 16/32-bit RISC (reduced instruction set computer) architecture. The concept for the ADuC7xxx family is similar to that of the standard ADuC8xx family, with some important added enhancements including the ARM7 core.
