Abstract

Objective To explore the u]trasonographic appearance of plasma cell mastitis. Methods Twenty-four cases with plasma cell mastitis (PCM)confirmed by pathology were studied retrospectively. Results CM in acute stage appeared as dilatation of mammary gland duct with hypo-echoic contents in the duct; PCM in sub-acute stage appeared as an echo area, irregular in shape and pattern, between middle and low echo area inside the mammary gland or mixed cystic and solid nodules;PCM in chronic stage appeared as solid nodules, increased echo reflectance around peripheral tissues and no membrane echogenicity. Lesions located mostly in areola area, inside which ascularization can be seen. Conclusion Some ultrasonographic appearance of PCM showed specificity, but some other showed atypism and misdiagnosis is easy to arise. Diagnose accordance rate can be raised through summarizing and analysis. Key words: Plasma cell mastitis; Ultrasonography
