Abstract
BS>A thermogravimetric study was made on the rare earth dibenzoylmethides in an inert atmosphere at atmospheric pressure. A general synthetic procedure by which most of the lanthanide dibenzoylmethide hydrates can be prepared in adequate yield and purity is described. The slow addition of aqueous ammonia to an ethanol-water mixture containing rare earth chloride, which is kept saturated with excess solid dibenzoylmethane, precipitates the compounds as hydrates. Thermogravimetric curves for hydrated rare earth dibenzoylmethides heated in an argon atmosphere are presented. (P.C.H.)
