Abstract

This research investigated the factors that impacts on family succession process in a company, founded in 1991, located at Macae, Rio de Janeiro, acting in supplying Steel Products, Hydraulic and Marine, for the Oil and Gas market. The overall objective was to determine the factors that impact on family succession process. To achieve the overall goal was defined as specific objectives: verify the influence of family ties in decisions, describe and understand how to develop a succession plan and investigate the difficulties of carrying out the succession, which can cause thus discontinuity in business. It is a descriptive and qualitative research, by a case study, which was made a collection of primary data that served as basis for the preparation of the analytical tool, through semi-structured interviews and quizzes with the research subjects, the founder and future successors. The Results indicate that the factors which impact the process are the preparation, successor monitoring, succession process’s creation and the fact that the company investigated didn’t have a formal succession plan.
