Abstract

The concept of representing plutonium in aqueous solutions as distributed among four oxidation states is used to suggest a decreased extent of disproportionation of pentavalent plutonium with increasing temperature over a narrow temperature range. This concept is also used to suggest that the proper selection of sequestering agents, solution acidity and plutonium oxidation number may result in equal concentrations of the four plutonium oxidation states.
