Abstract

1st ASIC 2022 THEME: “DROP OF LIFE: challenge to conserve aquatic ecosystem for the next generation” Water health is the most vital issue in human life. The health of the waters directly affects the health condition. As many as 1 million people died due to water, sanitation and hygiene-related diseases. Every two minutes a baby dies of water-related diseases. Only as much as 1% of water that can be used by humans for daily needs. Of this amount, only 0.0007% can be consumed by humans. The need for decent water for human life is increasing along with the Covid-19 pandemic that has hit the whole world. Efforts to prevent the spread of the SAR-COV 2 virus through the Hand Washing Movement require the availability of sufficient clean water. Without the availability of clean water, the spread of the SAR-CoV 2 virus becomes difficult. The problem of clean water becomes more complicated due to over-exploitation of forests as water catchment areas. The problem of water has become a worldwide concern. One of them is the breakthrough of the United Nations in July 2010 which has recognized the human right to water and sanitation. The United Nations recognizes the right of every human being to access to water for personal and domestic needs. Great attention to water is reflected in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 6 which reads “Ensuring affordability and sustainable management of water and salinity for all.”Aquatic science is an indispensable science in the midst of the crisis of water and the surrounding environment. As we all know that our waters have suffered a lot of degradation. This threatens not only our generation, but the next generation as well. So, at this 1st ASIC, we hope that awareness and discussion regarding the latest issues of aquatic ecosystems can be increased. This is expected to trigger the improvement of aquatic ecosystems. Selected articles will be published widely through the proceeding series IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environment Science which is indexed by Scopus. The 1st Aquatic Science International Conference (ASIC) is international conference related to aquatic science and aquatic health. This year, ASIC was organized by Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Universitas Brawijaya, Indonesia at the first time. 1st ASIC play by online at 7 and 8 October 2022 with theme: “DROP OF LIFE: challenge to conserve aquatic ecosystem for the next generation.” The conference bring the academician and water science practitioners to share their activities and studies related to topic aquatic biodiversity, aquatic biotechnology, aquatic ecotoxicology, aquatic ecology/limnology and aquatic waste management. The editors proudly present the selected papers of 1st ASIC for the scientist from Indonesia and abroad to share their research interest related to aquatic science and aquatic health. We would like to thank Universitas Brawijaya for fully support this International conference. Also thank to all keynote speakers and invited speakers from India, Philippine, Poland, Taiwan and Indonesia.
