Abstract

The reported case presents a 4-year-old boy hospitalized in the Paediatric Ward of the Warsaw Hospital for Children, diagnosed with acute rhinosinusitis accompanied by eyelid oedema and orbital cellulitis. Complications occurred after a relatively short period of illness. During hospital treatment a broad spectrum of antibiotics was included to improve the patient’s condition. Acute rhinosinusitis is a common childhood disease. Symptoms tend to subside following the application of symptomatic treatment conducted in an outpatient setting. A small number of cases is characterized by complications such as eyelid oedema, orbital cellulitis, orbital abscess or intracranial complications, which may prove hazardous to the health or life of a patient. Watchfulness and mindfulness of complications facilitate the diagnosis and implementation of appropriate treatment.
