Abstract

Results of an inter-institutional and multidiscipline experience are provided on the formation of indigene educators and socio-cultural renewal of the Xeta population in the state of Parana, Brazil, together with CEEI/SEED – Parana Education Department, through an acknowledgement and social inclusion project funded by MINC/CAPES. The 2010 - 2012 formation course comprised the identification and systemization of studies and sources on the Xeta, reports on new field information, the establishment of Work Groups, courses, technical visits, preparation of bilingual vocabulary and didactic material. The participating Xeta indigenes, who are socially and culturally reorganizing themselves and striving for territory demarcation, founded a specific and differentiated educational institute in which they maintain study programs and develop cultural and linguistic revitalization activities. Results show that such formation actually contributed towards a greater independence and research organization involving their history, language and culture undertaken by the indigenes themselves.
