Abstract
Urban policy makers and planners in western Europe are beginning that land use end transport trends are environmentally unsustainable, large cities such as Lille Metropole face growth in the use of motor vehicles. If cities are to be sustainable socially, economically and environmentally, land use and transport must be recognized, and treated, as an integrated system. The Central Urban Pole Exchange Center with an excellent accessibility at different scales may be a positive experience to change the modal-split in the future ! Even when they have, the development is too recent that it is soon to judge the effectiveness of the policy. Nevertheless, it is worth commenting on several characteristics. Co-ordination between the local, strategic and regional scales and between land-use planning is essential.
