Abstract

Banking sector is one of the fastest growing sectors in India. Recently, digital revolution makes the advancements in banking sector like electronic payments, easier transactions makes the bank to be more efficient and productive. In this paper, the study has been attempted to analyse the performance of top 5 public sector banks in India based on market capitalisation for the period 2011 to 2016. This paper examines the behaviour of profitability, efficiency, soundness of the banking system, and financial performance of public sector Indian banks for the selected period. The empirical results show that competition in the Indian banking industry has intensified and it shows the development of banks over the years. The study also aims in forecasting of deposits and advances of public sector banks. The parameters like capital adequacy, asset turnover, management efficiency, earning quality, liquidity has studied by using trend analysis, correlation and camel analysis.
