Abstract

This paper is the result of research literature with the aim to describe the practice of teaching literacy in the elementary school. The application of authentic assessment in literacy learning and authentic assessment in the introduction of literacy on learning Indonesian.The method used in this research is literature study with research data obtained from several books and journals, as well as other sources that support the authentic assessment, introduction of literacy and learning Indonesian in elementary school. The process of this literature study is as follows: first, identify the theory systematically, then locate the relevant literature, and analyze documents containing information relate to an authentic assessment of learning literacy on learning Indonesian in elementary school. Therefore, this study is analyzed by using descriptive technique. Research literature indicates that the concept of authentic assessment is appropriate and in line with the learning model that emphasizes on literacy awareness, especially in learning Indonesian at the primary level. Both are aligned in terms of independence and active learners, lots of variety of learning activities, resources and learning products, as well as local and cultural awareness with fixed based on the standards of competence specified. Learning Indonesian covering language skills and literature should be relevant to the social context of the community. Awareness of literacy should be integrated in the learning process at the classroom. The process of developing the ability to speak and compose implemented by developing cognitive abilities, analysis, synthesis, evaluation, and creation through a direct study of the social conditions by using a careful and critical thinking skills.
