Abstract

This chapter discusses educator perceptions of pedagogy and teaching methods directed explicitly at Education for Sustainability in landscape architectural education. Expanding on publications based on individual courses and qualitative methods, this chapter explores a greater quantitative view of the kinds of pedagogy used for EfS, their efficiency, and the possibility of using sustainability rating systems in teaching. The chapter includes a literature review and a survey among educators in landscape architecture programmes in the USA. The literature review looks into general EfS and EfS in design education. One of the survey findings is that problem-based learning, place-based learning, multidisciplinary learning, and learner-centred pedagogy are the top four most effective and commonly used approaches. Findings are important to educators interested in advancing EfS and landscape architectural education.
