Abstract

Acting in the awareness of history, international networking and alignment with sustainable development goals (SDGs) offer three promising perspectives in future landscape architecture education. Moving on to the second major educational challenge, we discuss international networking. Several chapter authors demonstrate how educational institutions for landscape architecture have been established worldwide at different times and in different contexts. A central challenge of higher education is its alignment with visions and principles of sustainable development. It is important to consider Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the basic features of the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) concept. ESD is a learning process that is based on the ideals and principles that underlie sustainability. Opportunities exist for linking landscape architectural fieldwork and community engagement with sustainability teaching and sustainability rating systems. Juanjo Galan presents an example of how to implement Fetzer's vision of integrating principles of sustainable development into landscape architecture teaching in a transdisciplinary approach.
