Abstract

The Paradigm of Social Change in the Ritual of Rambu Solo' Funeral in Tana Toraja. The funeral ritual of Rambu Solo' is one of the most famous cultures of Tana Toraja. This ritual is carried out with a lively impression because they see the social strata of the deceased so that they need to show that they are indeed from an upper class or respectable society. The Rambu Solo ritual is full of meaning and cultural values (aluk) that bind the people of Tana Toraja. Thus, Aluk is divine and all creatures should be subject to Aluk. However, now the Rambu Solo' ceremony has undergone various changes in its ritual context which resulted in a change in meaning. This study examines as well as describes the socio-cultural changes that occur at the Rambu Solo' funeral ceremony in Tana Toraja. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research approach with netnographic methods and literature studies on books, scientific journals, and online news. The results showed that the 'Rambu Solo' ceremony which was used in Aluk Todolo had undergone changes because it was adapted to Christianity and modern developments.
