Abstract

The new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), known to cause the disease Covid-19, is one of the most studied and talked about subjects since December 2019, after an epidemic outbreak in the city of Wuhan in China, in which it spread rapidly around the world, causing a serious pandemic. In view of this fact, the objective of this study is to explain to readers about the etiology, history, transmission, treatment, prevention, mechanisms of action, pathophysiology, pathological anatomy of SARS-CoV-2, to later relate all this problem with the dental environment, emphasizing the high risk of contamination, transmission and prevention methodologies, through a literature review to support all researched content. In addition, a survey was carried out with Multivix Dentistry students Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, ES, in order to investigate how they are dealing with the pandemic, asking questions such as modes of transmission, prevention, main symptoms and how they are looking for this information. Therefore, in view of the content discussed in this work, it is evident that the general population, mainly health professionals, needs to reinvent itself and review all the concepts of Biosafety to fight the virus.
