Abstract
One of the major concerns of all researchers in steels industries is improve the performance of materials to gain security, efficiency and lifetime. Carburizing using a solid mixture of carburizing ingredients is the older and applied thermochemical treatment to change physical, mechanical and chemical properties of materials. In this context, investigations were carried out to study the effect of size of the carburizing solid mixture on the mechanical properties, hardness and strength, of steel AISI/SAE 4140. The research was basic in nature, but with immediate utility and useful for use in other investigations or technologies. Nine tensile and hardness tests were evaluated in tests. It was observed that, the mechanical properties of steel were improved by carburizing. The size of carburizing solid mixture had effect only on the result of strength of steel. Smaller sizes had the better results of strength. Also, the results revealed that, there are a size (Mesh 16) from which there is no more improvement on strength. Keywords: Steel. Carburizin. Size. Hardness. Strength.
