Abstract
In the article, the authors analyze the experience of organizing research activities of geography students in extracurricular work, identify current problems that arise in the practice of geography teachers. The authors substantiate the position that educational research activity in geography today serves as one of the effective means of forming a functionally literate personality of schoolchildren. They give as an example a model of the extracurricular activity course program based on geographical local history
