Abstract

The aim of our essay is the analysis of two novels by Maria JoséDupré, a 1940’s Brazilian writer. In Éramos seis and Gina, we try to articulate the social context of the time to the formal aspectsof the narrative, filling up spaces that were left by the Brazilianliterary critics, always worried about the great modernist writers – not that this constitutes itself a problem, but sometimes leaves untouched aspects of the relation between literature and society that only the average writers are able to reveal.
