Abstract
Este artigo analisa a perspectiva do luto, enquanto afeto materno perdido, na narrativa A noite da espera, de Milton Hatoum. Tendo como base a estrutura de diário da narrativa hatouniana, três temas serão trabalhados ao longo deste artigo: o tempo e o esquecimento, a cumplicidade afetiva e corpórea entre mãe e filho, e a tentativa de superar a perda da mãe através da escrita. Em diálogo constante com este artigo, o livro Diário de luto, de Roland Barthes, nos oferece o suporte teórico para esta análise.
