Abstract
O objetivo deste texto, inicialmente, é apresentar um dos significativos poetas contemporâneos dos Estados Unidos, John Ashbery, e, por meio de alguns poucos exemplos, caracterizar a sua "poetry of belatedness" (Harold Bloom). Em um segundo momento, são questionadas as razões das diferenças do grau de reconhecimento de Ashbery no exterior, assim como a recepção de sua obra na Alemanha, na Inglaterra, na Austrália e na América do Sul.
