Abstract

The aim of the paper is to optimize the multi-response objectives (material removal rate and surface roughness) while machining EN19 steel using Grey Relational analysis. Cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut are the process parameters affecting material removal rate (MRR) and surface finish. The Minitab software is used to form the design of experiments with L9 orthogonal array. The values of the material removal rate (MRR) and the surface roughness are validated through Grey Relational Analysis. The Grey Relational Analysis is a good optimization technique as it helps for a multiple response process optimization problem into a single process optimization situation. The Grey Relation Coefficients are a measure of the relevancy between the process and factors taken into consideration for the optimization. The results obtained from the Grey Grade values for dry machining and wet machining are spindle speed and depth of cut at level 3 respectively is the most influencing cutting parameter.
