Abstract

A study of modern manufacturing methods is indispensable to establish a robust production system in an industrial environment. A significant challenge is the transition from conventional manufacturing processes to non-conventional manufacturing processes. Identification of various parameters, characteristics, and challenges in new manufacturing technologies is an indispensable necessity. Additive manufacturing is a field that demonstrates limitless opportunities for research to develop smart and next-generation manufacturing methodologies with the integration of multiple technologies in a variety of domains. A limited understanding of the process remains a major constraint in its acceptance in various industries. This paper outlines and reviews several work carried out in this domain to understand the various bottlenecks in the additive manufacturing (AM) process. The causes of distortion in components during the manufacturing process and the remedies are highlighted.
