Abstract
A 90° sector magnetic spectrometer (ΔE/E ˜ 0.1%) is utilized for high-resolution Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (HRBS). Energy spectra of scattered MeV He ions from single crystal surfaces are measured with the spectrometer. The ions scattered from successive atomic layers can be resolved in the energy spectra. Initial stage of the epitaxial growth of PbTe on SnTe(001) is studied with HRBS. The growth mode is found to be the simultaneous multilayer growth mode.
